Automatic member pricing

Member pricing lets current members see and pay member prices on event tickets and items without typing a discount code. It builds on the member-only discount codes you already create on a campaign.

How it works

When a signed-in supporter opens an event page, BetterUnite checks whether they hold a current membership, either their own or as a member of a household on someone else's membership. If they do, any discount on that campaign marked Apply automatically for members is applied for them, and the page shows "Member price applied."

A supporter is recognized as a member when they have signed in to the supporter portal, or when they have verified their membership on the event page with the emailed code.

Who counts as a member

  • Only memberships with the status Current qualify. A membership that is past due, pending its first payment, starting in the future, canceled or completed does not get member pricing.
  • Household members qualify while they belong to the household. Someone who has left the household does not.
  • If the discount is limited to certain plans, the member must hold one of those plans. A discount set to any plan accepts every current member.

Set up an automatic member discount

  1. Open the campaign and go to Discounts.
  2. Add a discount, or edit an existing one.
  3. Under membership, choose the plans the discount is for, or any plan.
  4. Check Apply automatically for members (no code needed). The code field can be left empty.
  5. Save.

When a member also has a promo code

Discounts do not stack. An order carries one discount. If a member types a promo code and also qualifies for an automatic member price, BetterUnite applies whichever saves them more on that order. If the two save the same amount, the code they typed is kept.

Discounts that unlock hidden tickets or items (access discounts) are separate. They show the member-only items and do not take the order's one discount.

Member-only codes are now enforced at checkout

A code limited to members is refused for anyone who is not a current member, with the message "This code is only for members. Verify your membership to use it." Checkout also refuses codes that are paused, used up, or belong to a different campaign. Codes from a peer-to-peer parent campaign still work on its child pages.

Staff are not affected. Orders taken in the admin cart, offline entry, the check-in terminal, bulk checkout, card on file, and recurring or scheduled charges can apply a member-only discount on a member's behalf.

What supporters and staff see

  • On the event page: "Member price applied." when an automatic member discount is in effect.
  • On the donation record: the discount line reads "(Member price)" when it was applied without a code.
