Badge Awards: Notifications

Badge notifications help keep participants engaged by celebrating their achievements as they happen. When a participant earns a badge in a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) campaign, the notification system ensures they’re informed quickly and clearly.

This article explains how badge award notifications work and what participants and admins can expect.

What happens when a badge is earned

When a participant meets the requirements for a badge (such as logging activity, reaching a milestone, or receiving pledges), the badge is awarded automatically.

Once awarded:

  • The badge appears on the participant’s fundraising page or activity dashboard

  • A notification is triggered to let the participant know they’ve earned it

How participants are notified

Depending on your campaign setup, participants may receive one or more of the following:

  • Email notification congratulating them on their achievement

  • In-app or dashboard notification showing the newly earned badge

These notifications reinforce progress and encourage participants to keep engaging with the event.

What badge notification emails typically include

Badge award emails are designed to be short, positive, and motivating. They often include:

  • The badge name and icon

  • A congratulatory message

  • A brief explanation of what the badge represents

  • Encouragement to continue participating or share progress

Exact email content may vary based on your organization’s branding and messaging.

When notifications are sent

Badge notifications are usually sent:

  • Immediately, when a badge is earned in real time

  • After event updates, if badges are awarded when activities are finalized

Timing depends on how the event and badges are configured.

What admins should know

For admins:

  • Badge notifications are tied directly to badge awards

  • Notifications are sent automatically—no manual action is required

  • Badge criteria are managed through Badges & Rules in the Peer-to-Peer settings

If badge rules are updated during an event, notifications apply only to newly earned badges moving forward.

Why a participant may not receive a notification

If a participant doesn’t receive a badge notification:

  • The badge may not have been earned yet

  • Activity or pledge data may still be updating

  • Email delivery may be delayed or filtered by the participant’s email provider

Even if a notification is missed, earned badges will still appear on the participant’s dashboard.

Summary

  • Badge notifications celebrate participant achievements automatically

  • Participants are notified through email and/or in-app messages

  • Notifications help reinforce progress and motivate continued participation

  • Admins control badge criteria, while notifications run automatically

Well-timed badge notifications make achievements visible, rewarding, and memorable—helping drive engagement throughout your Peer-to-Peer campaign.
