Claim Your Phone Number and Text Messaging Pricing

Accept inbound text messages to facilitate donations and enable outbound messaging for your donors and guests.

Can I get my own custom phone number?

  • We can technically still allow you to do that. However, we now discourage this because obtaining your own phone number is not necessary in 99% of the use cases, and it is a long and cumbersome process now that anti-spam laws have been implemented. The approval process for your own custom number takes several weeks. Please simply use the existing messaging service within your event. Reach out to us if you need more information or would still like to pursue a dedicated phone number. If you're determined to get a number, follow these steps.

 Overview

  • BetterUnite partners with many behind-the-scenes software providers to enhance the rich functionality of your BetterUnite account. When we do this, we absorb additional fees whenever possible and pass along those that we must.
  • Phone carriers in the US are implementing Text/SMS restrictions that have already been in place in most overseas companies. These new restrictions will increase spam filters and limit the ability of bad actors to send unwanted and unrequested text messages.
  • Phone carriers (most immediately AT&T and Verizon) are raising their prices per text, per phone number, adding monthly charges per campaign, and implementing more stringent registration measures.
  • Therefore, if you need to claim a "local" number, you will be asked to register your organization. However, we are also offering a toll-free phone number registration at a cheaper rate with no-hassle registration.

Option 1: Toll-Free Number

$5 per month & Zero setup fees
  • Sign up and choose a toll-free phone number for your organization.
  • Your donors can text your number to donate to your organization.
  • You can also guide them to donate directly to a specific campaign.

Why is this feature not free?

  • We have to pay a service provider in order to send and receive text messages. We are a transactional revenue service and since we don't charge you a montly fee or a setup fee, we have to pass on these types of transactional costs.

Can I just use this for one event?

  • Sure. If you plan on using this number temporarily, you can simply cancel it after your event is over to avoid carrying further monthly costs. However, guest messaging within your event may be more advantageous without the additional steps for verification and with a quicker time to start sending messages.
  • By completing this payment, you will be charged US$5 for a monthly subscription to use your unique phone number. The subscription will renew every month on the same date unless canceled ahead of time. Once you subscribe to this feature, you can cancel it anytime. Payments are non-refundable.

Option 2: Local Phone Number

$95 one-time registration fee + $20 per month

  • Sign up and choose a local phone number for your organization
  • Your donors can text your number to donate to your organization
  • You can also guide them to donate directly to a specific campaign
  • Once you sign up for a local number plan, you will need to provide specific information about your organization as well as two responsible personnel in your organization.

Why is a local phone number more expensive than toll-free?

  • As part of new anti-spam efforts, service provider networks (e.g. AT&T) are now imposing more stringent processes for long phone number registrations. They also charge extra for businesses using long codes to send messages. These charges include registering your brand up front, as well as a charge per messaging campaign on a monthly basis. We did a lot of work to enable this capability to continue within our system, and we are enabling these requirements seamlessly for you.
