Connect Google Health
If you wear a Fitbit or a Pixel Watch, or use another device or app that syncs to Google Health, your activity can count toward your peer-to-peer fundraiser. Connect Google Health once, then import your workouts and daily steps whenever you like.
Before you start
You will need:
- A fundraising page in a peer-to-peer campaign that tracks activity, where the organizer has turned on Google Health. If you don't see a Google Health section on your fundraising page, the campaign doesn't use it.
- The Google account your Fitbit, Pixel Watch or other app is linked to. Fitbit accounts now sign in with Google.
- Your device synced with its app on your phone, so your latest activity is in Google Health.
Step 1: Connect Google Health
- Sign in to BetterUnite and open your fundraising page.
- Go to the Activity Tracking tab.
- In the Google Health section, click Connect Google Health.
- Sign in with the Google account linked to your device.
- When Google asks what BetterUnite can see, leave activity and fitness data checked and click Continue.
You return to your fundraising page, and the Google Health section shows Connected.
Step 2: Import your activity
- In the Google Health section, choose a From and To date. They start out covering the last 7 days.
- Click Import.
BetterUnite shows how many activities were imported, updated and skipped. Imported activity appears in your activity list and counts toward your goal and your pledges right away.
- You can import up to 90 days at a time.
- Import as often as you like. Workouts you already imported are skipped, so nothing is counted twice.
- If your campaign counts daily steps, each day's total is updated when you import again. Steps you take after an import are picked up the next time.
- Activity is not imported automatically. Click Import regularly, and before your campaign ends.
What counts
Your campaign organizer decides which kinds of activity count, such as walks, runs, bike rides or daily steps, and whether they count in miles, kilometers, minutes or steps. Activity the campaign doesn't track is skipped when you import.
If you count your activity through Strava as well, import each workout from only one of them. A workout imported from both Strava and Google Health counts twice.
Your privacy
BetterUnite reads only your activity and fitness data from Google Health, and only to count your workouts and steps toward this fundraiser. It never sells this data or uses it for advertising. It can't see other health information, such as sleep or heart data.
Disconnect Google Health
- In the Google Health section of your fundraising page, click the gear icon.
- Click Disconnect, then confirm.
BetterUnite stops reading your Google Health data and removes its access. Activity you already imported stays on your fundraising page. You can also remove access from your Google account settings under Security, then Your connections to third-party apps and services.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| There is no Google Health section on your fundraising page | Your campaign doesn't use Google Health. You can still log activity by hand, or use Strava if your campaign offers it. |
| "Google Health was not connected because access was not allowed" | You clicked Cancel on the Google screen. Click Connect Google Health again and continue. |
| "Activity and fitness data was not allowed" | That box was unchecked on the Google screen. Click Connect Google Health again and leave it checked. |
| "The Google sign-in took too long" | Click Connect Google Health again and finish signing in within 15 minutes. |
| "Google Health access has expired or was removed" | The section now shows Not connected. Click Connect Google Health to connect again. Activity you already imported is kept. |
| "This Google account has no Google Health data linked yet" | You signed in with a different Google account than the one your device uses, or your device hasn't synced yet. Disconnect, then connect again with the right account. |
| A workout is missing after you import | Open your device's app to sync it, check that the From and To dates include the day of the workout, then import again. If it's still skipped, the campaign may not count that kind of activity, or it may have no distance recorded (common for indoor workouts). |
| The same workout counted twice | You may have also imported it from Strava or entered it by hand. Delete the extra entry from your activity list. |
