DonateStock Connection

DonateStock is a platform that connects donor stocks with nonprofit organizations.  A donor can go to donorstock.com and donate part of their portfolio to a nonprofit and DonorStock passes on that donation to the nonprofit after they apply a fee.  The connection within BetterUnite enables a more intrinsic integration between DonateStock and your nonprofit so that you are able to expose the stock donation capabilities within your giving campaigns and events to make it easier for donors to have the option to donate using their stocks to your organization.  

The connection to DonateStock is enabled only if you opt-in for the service. It is a free connection. Below are the steps to turn on your DonorStick connection.

  1. Go to settings->integrations
  2. Locate the "DonateStock" integration, and click setup
  3. Click "Opt-In DonateStock" button to turn on connection
  4. Confirm or enter your EIN (required for this connection)
  5. Follow the "View/Edit DonateStock Profile" button to your profile on the DonateStock website to make sure that your nonprofit profile is filled out accurately and to take control of your presence on the www.donatestock.com website.

Once you have turned on your integration to DonateStock at your account level, you will have the option to expose the stock donation option on a per campaign/event basis.

To turn on the stock donation option for a campaign:

  1. Go to Edit Campaign/Event page of your campaign/event
  2. Select Advanced, scroll down to "Allow Stock Donations" section
  3. Check the box to and click Save to turn on the stock donation capabilities for this campaign

Once this is turned on for a campaign, a link will be displayed for the donor on the campaign landing page and the check out page, giving the donor/guest the option to donate stock to your organization.  When the donor clicks this link, they will be shown a popup window to complete their transaction.

When the donation is completed, DonateStock will get in touch with you to provide the funds to you.  This is why it is important that you fill out your DonateStock profile and provide all contact information to enable swift communications and information delivery at every stage.
