Moving your grants onto stages

If you have been using Grant Center with the built-in statuses, this is how you move your existing portfolio onto configurable stages without losing anything.

What the migration does

Every grant you already have carries one of the eight built-in statuses. Each starting stage is mapped to exactly one of those statuses, so the migration can place every existing grant on the stage that means the same thing it already meant. Nothing is guessed and nothing changes about how a grant reports.

Running it

1. Go to Grant Center → Settings → Pipeline stages.
2. Review your stages first. It is easier to rename and reorder now than after grants are sitting on them.
3. Click Preview. You will see exactly how many grants will land on each stage, and any that cannot be placed.
4. If the preview looks right, click Apply.

The preview changes nothing. You can run it as many times as you like.

What happens to history

The migration writes a stage-history entry for each grant it places, marked as coming from the migration rather than from a person. Nobody reading a grant's history later will mistake an automatic placement for a decision somebody made.

If a grant cannot be placed

A grant is skipped rather than guessed at when its status has no stage mapped to it — which happens if you deactivated a starting stage before running the migration. Re-activate the stage, or move those grants by hand afterwards.
