Import Donors
The first import we recommend for organizations transitioning to BetterUnite is importing your existing list of donors. This ensures that all your essential donor information is in place from the beginning, facilitating a smooth transition.
The donor import process is done through a CSV import. Once you have your donor information ready, go to the appropriate page in BetterUnite, select your file to import, and provide any necessary column mapping. Typically, the challenging part is cleansing your original donor information and ensuring your extract is organized accurately and de-duplicated before importing into BetterUnite.

- In this pop-up window, you can see the drop-down lists show existing fields on a contact record that can be mapped. This mapping exercise aims to align the columns in your file with the fields in BetterUnite contact records.
- Regardless of what your CSV column is titled, you can map it to a contact record field. If you use our template, the mapping is easier because it'll automatically match the column names.
- Once the CSV file that you prepared is uploaded, review the data and click Import.
- On the confirmation page shown below, you can see the contacts that are imported. This section also shows whether a contact was created new or updated.
- An updated contact means it matched a contact already in the system.
- Once the Contacts are imported, you can see them on the Contacts page, as shown below.
- For a set of available fields that you are available to import, please review this article here.
