March Nonprofit of the Month: Dallas 24 Hour Club
The Dallas 24 Hour Club was founded in 1969 by Lee Tillman, whose goal was to open a safe place, open 24 hours every day for anyone suffering from addiction to alcohol or drugs who were seeking help. In the ensuing 50 plus years it has grown from offering housing to six men only, to the current facility of 75 beds and services for men and women. There are weekly 12-step recovery program meetings. The name 24 Hour Club reflects its mission.
Services provided include:
(1) housing for up to 6 months (per stay) for recovering alcoholics and drug addicts at minimal cost;
(2) liaison between residents and service agencies who may help fulfill their needs;
(3) provide space for 12 step recovery meetings;
(4) provide venue for 12 step fellowships to help others achieve sobriety; and
(5) provide welcoming environment for those who desire recovery and for those who support them.
The public is welcome to attend recovery meetings, provide services to residents and enjoy the full-service on-site restaurant, the Hubcap Cafe. Further information is available on request. Tillman House is an affordable sober living community available to graduates of the 24 Hour Club. This was established in 2021 to encourage continued sobriety and increase occupancy availability.
As Helen Keller said, "Alone we can do so little. But together we can do so much." There are volunteer opportunities at the 24 Hour Club as well as a donation wish list for those who prefer to contribute financially. You can learn more and support the Dallas 24 Hour Club HERE - 68 cents of every dollar donated goes directly back to Residents. Dallas 24 Hour Club helps over 550 people every year get off the streets, find employment and embrace recovery.
