Mobile App: Tap to Save Card On File

With Stripe as your payment processor, you now have the option to turn on "Tap to Pay" on the BetterUnite mobile app as a method of registering guests' card on file. Before this feature, you would need to use credit card swipers with lightning connectors as your input device. Now, with the Stripe Tap to Pay feature, you only need an iPhone to preauthorize a credit card on-site at an event. Unlike the name suggests, the tap action is not actually charging the card, it's only registering the card on file.

No additional hardware required

  • There’s no need to buy, set up, or manage dedicated card readers — you can now start accepting in-person payments with only an iPhone.

Secure and private

  • With Tap to Pay on iPhone, every transaction is protected by the security and privacy features built into the iPhone.

How it works

  • In your BetterUnite app, select the input device as Tap to Pay, and it will turn on the option.
  • Once this is turned on, you can start using your iPhone as your input device. When you pull up a guest record, click the Register Card button as before, and simply place the guest card on top of your iPhone screen.
  • The app will read the card details and register it on file as a preauthorized card for the guest, without the need for an external reader device or manual typing of the credit card numbers and information.

Prerequisites

Stripe as your payment processor

  • This functionality is only provided by the Stripe payment processor.  If you're using another processor and would like to take advantage of this feature, please go to Settings->Online Funding, and sign up for Stripe, or let us know at support@betterunite.com and we can help you get setup.

Compatible iPhone Device

Tap to Pay on iPhone requires:

  • An iPhone XS or later running iOS 16.0 or later in the United States.
  • An iPhone XS or later running iOS 16.4 or later in Australia and the United Kingdom.

We recommend asking your BetterUnite admin users to update to the latest iOS version for the best performance.

** Please Note: Tap to Pay won’t work on beta releases of iOS.
