Moving to Modular Pricing

BetterUnite is sold as modules: you choose the parts you use, and each one moves on its own. This article explains what that means for your organization, whether you are on a Core, Pro or Premier plan today, on pay-as-you-go, or already on modules.

If you are on a paid plan, your price does not change and you do not lose anything. That is the short version. The rest is detail.

What modular pricing is

Instead of one plan that bundles everything, BetterUnite is made of parts:

  • Fundraising, the foundation, included with every plan
  • Events, in Core, Pro and Premier levels
  • Donors and CRM, in Core, Pro and Premier levels
  • Peer-to-Peer, Volunteers, Membership and Email Marketing, added when you need them
  • Add-ons and integrations, added one at a time

Everything sits on one subscription, with one renewal date and one invoice. Prices are shown per month and billed once a year.

The practical difference is upgrades. Under the old plans, needing a single feature from the level above meant buying that whole level, including tools you already had. Now you move up the one module you need, and everything else stays exactly where it is, at the price it is.

If you are on Core, Pro or Premier

Your plan is being rebuilt from the modules that make it up, at the price you already pay.

Your plan today The modules it becomes
Core Fundraising, Donors and CRM (Core), Peer-to-Peer (Pro), Volunteers (Core)
Pro Fundraising, Events (Pro), Donors and CRM (Pro), Peer-to-Peer (Pro), Volunteers (Core)
Premier Fundraising, Events (Premier), Donors and CRM (Pro), Peer-to-Peer (Pro), Volunteers (Core), Email Marketing

Peer-to-Peer and Volunteers are included in all three, whether or not you use them today. Events are not part of the Core mapping, because Core did not include event tools.

What does not change

  • Your price. If you pay $650 a year today, you pay $650 a year afterwards.
  • Your renewal date. Your current plan runs to the end of its term as normal, then the new one takes over on the same date.
  • Your features. Everything you have today keeps working, including anything your plan covered that these modules do not cover on their own, and anything our team has enabled on your account by hand. Those are added to your account directly.
  • Anything else on your subscription. A platform fee buydown, event services, or any other line billed alongside your plan carries across at the same price and quantity. A buydown keeps holding your rate.
  • Your platform fee. The percentage charged on your online transactions is unchanged.
  • Your data. Nothing is moved, exported or reset.

There is no form to sign, no card to re-enter and no interruption.

When it happens

Two steps, and only the first is immediate.

  1. When your account moves. The new plan is created and every feature you use is confirmed on your account. Nothing is charged.
  2. At your renewal date. Your old plan ends and the new one takes over at the same price.

In between you will see both on your Subscription and Billing page. That is expected: the new plan shows the date its billing begins, your current plan shows the date it ends, and they are the same date.

Your account moves the first time you add or upgrade a module, and we may also move accounts as they come up for renewal. Either way the price is the one you already pay.

If you are on pay-as-you-go

You pay a platform fee on each online transaction and no subscription. BetterUnite's newer features are sold as modules, and a plan is what makes them available to add.

Your Upgrade Options tab shows the plan your organization is priced at, with the modules it covers marked as yours and everything above them priced. The price is based on what your organization actually processes through BetterUnite rather than a fixed tier, so it reflects your size rather than a category.

Three things worth knowing:

  • Your platform fee does not change. Starting a plan does not alter the percentage your transactions are charged, in either direction.
  • Nothing is charged until you start a plan. Prices are visible for as long as you want to look at them.
  • The features you already use carry across. When you start a plan, what you are using today keeps working. If you use something you do not see listed on your plan, tell us before you start and we will add it.

Adding your first module starts the plan. The page shows the full amount, and what will be charged, before you confirm.

Adding and upgrading modules
  1. Go to Settings, then Subscription and Billing.
  2. Open the Upgrade Options tab.
  3. Pick a module on the left to see its levels and what each one includes.

Modules you already have are marked as part of your plan and show no price. Anything above them shows what it costs on your account.

Modules cost less added to a plan than bought on their own. The price you see on your Upgrade Options tab is the one that applies to you, so there is nothing to work out.

When you add or upgrade something, the amount charged straight away covers it for the remainder of your current term, and it is included in your plan from your renewal date onward. Your renewal date does not move. The exact figures are shown before you confirm.

Frequently asked questions

Will my bill go up?

Not as a result of this change. Paid plans move at exactly what they pay today. Any future price change is a separate decision, and we will tell you well before it takes effect.

Do I have to do anything?

No. If your account has already moved, it is done. If it has not, you will keep working exactly as you are now.

I pay monthly. What happens to me?

Modules are sold annually, so your new plan is annual and priced at the annual rate for your plan, which is ten months rather than twelve. You pay less over a year than you do now. It does mean one annual invoice instead of twelve monthly ones, so it is worth flagging to whoever handles your finances.

Why does my invoice list each module at full price with a discount underneath?

Because your invoice shows what each module costs and then the discount that brings the total to your price. The discount is part of your agreed plan price. It is ongoing and it does not expire. Your total is the figure at the bottom, and it is the same one you were paying before.

Can I still buy Core, Pro or Premier?

No. Those plans are no longer sold. Everything they did is available through modules.

Will I lose a feature that my old plan included?

No. Anything your plan covered is added to your account so it keeps working, and so is anything our team enabled for you by hand. You can see the list under Additional features enabled on your Subscription and Billing page. If you use something that is not listed, contact support before your renewal date and we will add it.

Can I remove a module later?

Contact support and we will take care of it.

Does this affect my donors or my public pages?

No. This changes how your subscription is put together. Your campaigns, donation pages, checkout and donor experience are untouched.

Do I get a new renewal date?

No. Your renewal date is the one thing every part of this is built around keeping.
