Transferring Recurring Payments from WePay to Stripe
Stripe allows transferring cards on file (recurring payments) from WePay to your Stripe account. Since we, BetterUnite, cannot see the actual card numbers on file, this process is conducted behind the scenes between WePay and Stripe, directly coordinating the card information transfer.
Note: PayPal does not allow for the transitioning of recurring payments, so you must create a Stripe account if you want to keep processing your recurring payments. If you'd like to use PayPal as your central processor, you can still add it as another processor on your account and use it on your campaigns in addition to the Stripe account.
We will coordinate directly with you about the transfer process after January 1, which you must complete by May 2024.
We will communicate separately about initiating this process with WePay cards on file for all organizations. We will then start a procedure of transfer requests for your WePay cards to your Stripe account. However, for us to create and coordinate this process, we will need a Stripe payment processor linked to your BetterUnite account, so please first follow the instructions to complete your Stripe account (login to your BetterUnite account, go to Settings->Online Funding, click Add New to sign up for a Stripe processor account).
Once you have a "destination" Stripe account available, we will submit the request to Stripe with the card reference numbers (not the card numbers themselves since we do not have access to those) to transfer and your Stripe account information, and they will coordinate with WePay to move the cards. Once we assign the cards to Stripe, we will switch out the recurring payments in our system to point them to the new Stripe card instead of the WePay card on file. Technically, this process is expected to be seamless, and we do not expect to cause any delays in the payments.
