Understanding Pledge and Fundraising Totals

How do pledges affect fundraising totals?

Pledges are included in fundraising totals as committed money, even before they are collected. Once a pledge is paid, the amount moves from the pledged balance into collected donations without being counted twice.

How are dashboard totals calculated?

Dashboard totals add up money, not just paid transactions. That includes:

  • Payments received
  • Pledge balances still owed

Category totals such as Ticket Sales and Items for Sale add up line items. A pledge can also include sponsorship package items, and those items may be counted separately from the money collected on the pledge.

What happens when a pledge is assigned to an individual campaign or fundraiser?

Assigning a pledge to an individual campaign does not create a second contribution. The pledge remains an outstanding commitment until payment is received.

For peer-to-peer fundraisers and campaign totals:

  • Internal fundraiser performance totals can include outstanding pledges
  • Team totals can include outstanding pledges
  • Under the total, you may see a line showing how much is pledged but not yet collected
  • As payments are made, the pledged amount moves into collected donations

How do public pages display pledge totals?

Public-facing pages work differently by default. Public leaderboards, fundraiser tiles, and thermometers show collected donations only.

To include pledges on public pages:

  1. Open the campaign.
  2. Go to Edit Campaign.
  3. Select the Advanced tab.
  4. Open Progress Indicator Options.
  5. Turn on Include in-progress transactions/guest cart items/pledges.

After this change, public pages will match what you see internally.

How are comped tickets or zero-dollar orders handled?

Comped tickets are not included in Total Raised because they bring in no money. Zero-dollar orders with ticket line items are counted in Ticket Sales, but not in Total Raised.

What should you expect after a pledge is paid?

Once a pledge is paid in full:

  • It moves from Pledges to Paid Transactions
  • The total remains accurate
  • The amount is no longer shown as an outstanding pledge
  • There is no double counting

Summary

Pledge totals and fundraising totals are handled differently depending on where you view them. Internal totals can include outstanding pledges, while public pages show collected donations only unless the campaign setting is changed.
