Wealth Insights Reference Guide

This guide explains the wealth, giving, and likelihood attributes shown in contact profiles. These insights help you understand a contact’s estimated financial capacity, giving behavior, and recommended fundraising approach.

All data is provided by DonorSearch unless otherwise noted. Some summary scores are calculated by the platform using DonorSearch data.


Match & Data Quality

Match Quality Score

What it is:
A numeric score indicating how confidently DonorSearch matched this contact to available wealth and giving data.

How it works:

  • Scores typically range from 17 and above

  • Higher scores indicate stronger match confidence

How to interpret:

  • 17–18: Acceptable match confidence

  • 19+: Very strong match confidence

This score helps assess how reliable the wealth data is for this contact.


DonorSearch Rating

DonorSearch Rating (DS Rating)

What it is:
A summary rating that reflects overall propensity to give based on DonorSearch modeling.

Common values:

  • DS1-1: Very strong opportunity

  • DS1-2: Strong opportunity

  • DS1-3: Moderate opportunity

  • DS1-4: Limited opportunity

  • DS1-5: Minimal opportunity

  • DS3: Insufficient or low-quality matched data

This rating is directional and should be used as a prioritization aid.


Wealth & Capacity Indicators

Estimated Net Worth

What it is:
An estimated range of the individual’s total net worth.

How it’s calculated:

  • Derived from DonorSearch asset modeling

  • Uses indicators such as real estate, business ownership, investments, and giving patterns

  • Displayed as a range to avoid false precision

Example:
$1,000,000 – $4,999,999


Estimated Giving Capacity

What it is:
An estimate of how much the individual could reasonably donate over a five-year period.

How it’s calculated:

  • Approximately 10% of estimated net worth

  • Provided directly by DonorSearch


Target Ask by Wealth

What it is:
A suggested ask range based on estimated net worth.

How to use it:

  • Helps frame appropriate ask amounts

  • Intended as strategic guidance, not a guaranteed gift amount


Real Estate Property Count

What it is:
The number of properties DonorSearch identified as owned by the individual.


Estimated Real Estate Value

What it is:
The total estimated value of real estate holdings.


States with Real Estate

What it is:
The number of U.S. states in which the individual owns property.


Business Affiliation

What it is:
Indicates whether the individual is identified as an executive or business owner.

Values:

  • Y: Yes

  • M: Maybe


SEC Insider Status

What it is:
Indicates whether the individual is listed as an SEC insider.

Values:

  • Y: Yes

  • M: Maybe

  • N: No


Giving Likelihood Scores

These scores estimate how likely a contact is to respond to different types of fundraising outreach.


Annual Fund Likelihood

What it is:
A relative score estimating responsiveness to annual fund appeals.

Scale:
0–300 (higher is better)

How it’s calculated:

  • Uses DonorSearch predictive models

  • Performs best when client-supplied giving data is available


Major Gift Likelihood

What it is:
A relative score estimating responsiveness to major gift outreach.

Scale:
0–300 (higher is better)

How it’s calculated:

  • Based on modeled capacity, giving behavior, and engagement signals


Planned Gift Indicator Rating

What it is:
A DonorSearch score estimating planned giving potential.

Scale:
1–7

  • 1: Most likely to respond

  • 7: Least likely to respond


Calculated Summary Scores

The following scores are calculated by the BetterUnite platform using DonorSearch data.


Composite Donor Score

What it is:
A single 0–100 score summarizing overall giving potential.

How it’s calculated:
This score combines three weighted components:

  1. Giving Capacity

    • Estimated net worth

    • Estimated giving capacity

    • Asset indicators (real estate, business ownership)

  2. Likelihood to Give

    • Annual Fund Likelihood

    • Major Gift Likelihood

    • Planned Gift indicators

    • DonorSearch AI signals (when available)

  3. Giving Evidence

    • Estimated past giving amounts

    • Gift size and frequency indicators

Each component is normalized and weighted to produce a single score designed for prioritization, not prediction.


Composite Score Labels

  • Strong Giving Signals

  • Moderate Giving Signals

  • Limited Giving Signals

These labels help quickly interpret the numeric score.


Primary Fundraising Focus

What it is:
A recommended fundraising strategy based on available data.

Possible values:

  • Major Gifts

  • Annual Fund

  • Planned Giving

  • Stewardship / Monitor

How it’s calculated:

  • Considers likelihood scores, estimated capacity, and planned giving indicators

  • Prioritizes long-term strategies when planned giving potential is strong


Additional Contextual Attributes

Median Household Income

What it is:
Median household income for the contact’s ZIP code based on U.S. census data.


Average Home Value

What it is:
Average home value for the contact’s ZIP code based on census data.


Profile Link

What it is:
A direct link to the individual’s full DonorSearch profile (when available).


Last Synced Date

What it is:
The date when DonorSearch wealth data was last retrieved for this contact.
