Milestones and deadlines

A milestone is a dated item on a grant — an application step, a reporting deadline, an expected payment. Milestones are how Grant Center keeps track of everything a grant requires beyond its own application dates.

Adding a milestone

  1. Open the grant and find the Milestones card.
  2. Click Add milestone.
  3. Give it a title, a date, and an expected amount if money is involved.
  4. Save.

A milestone is Open until you close it. Open milestones with a date count towards the deadline agenda and the overdue figures on your dashboard; closed ones drop out.

The deadline agenda

The Schedule & deadlines tab in the Grant Center collects every dated obligation across every grant into one chronological list — grant application dates and milestones together, grouped by urgency. Items with no date sort to the end rather than being hidden: an obligation with no date is a gap you should see, not a row that quietly disappears.

Giving a milestone a type

A milestone can be given a type, which turns it from a generic dated item into something the system understands:

Typing a milestone does not move, copy or re-create it. The same record gains extra detail, so anything already referencing it — an export, a report, a saved view — stays valid.

Nothing is typed automatically. A milestone does not become a payment just because it carries an amount, because that would silently change what your expected-income figures count.
