Custom Fields Explained

There are 3 types of custom fields you can add, and they each have a specific purpose and impact on where and how the data is collected, stored and accessed.

Custom Contact Fields

Custom contact fields are fields that are available on each contact record. These fields will show up on the contact record, and are editable via the edit link on the contact page as well.  You can include a custom contact field in your campaign form for the purchaser to fill out, in which case the values filled out by the purchaser will be directly updated on the contact record.

Custom Checkout Fields

Custom checkout fields are fields that you can expose to purchasers to fill out before checkout, and these fields are only captured for that purchaser within that campaign. These fields are not updated or available on the contact header record because their context is only the campaign on which the field is exposed.  These values can be accessed from guest list and guest exports.

Custom Guest Fields

Custom guest fields are fields that you can expose to each guest to fill out after checkout.  This is because the number of guests is finalized once the purchase is complete. Also, the system does not want to stop the purchaser from completing the purchase if the guest information is not known at the time of purchase.  These fields are captured for each guest within that campaign only. They can be updated either by the purchaser or, if shared, by the guest from the confirmation page. These fields are not updated or available on the contact header record because their context is only the campaign on which the field is exposed.  These values can be accessed from guest list and guest exports.
