Next actions
A next action is a single sentence saying what has to happen next on a grant, and the date it should happen by. "Confirm the program budget with Maria — 18 September."

Why it is worth keeping current
A grant with no next action is a grant nobody has decided anything about. It is the cheapest early warning Grant Center offers, which is why Grants without a next action is a health indicator on the Overview dashboard and a quick filter in the work queue. A pipeline where every grant has a live next action is a pipeline somebody is actually running.
Next actions are deliberately not tasks. A task is a full record with an assignee, a status and a history. A next action is one line you overwrite each time the answer changes.
Setting a next action
- Open the grant and find the Next action card.
- Write what needs to happen, in plain language.
- Set the date it should happen by.
- Save.
When the action is done, replace it with the next one. There is no "complete" state — the field always describes what is coming, not what has passed.
Where next actions show up
- On the grant card on the pipeline board.
- As rows in the work queue, with their own item type.
- In the "Grants without a next action" dashboard indicator, when they are missing.
