Grant Center permissions and access

Whether a user can do something in Grant Center depends on two separate questions, and both have to be satisfied. Most access problems are one of the two being overlooked, so it is worth knowing which is which.

The two are independent. A user with every grant permission but an assigned-only scope still sees just their own records; a user who can see every grant but holds no grant permission can only look. Both have to line up before somebody can act.

The grant permissions

Set these per user under Organization → Users. They are additive — a user can hold any combination.

Full Access includes all of the above, so existing administrators are not locked out by this.

Grant scope: which grants a user can see

Separately from what a user may do, each user has a grant scope controlling which records they may reach at all. Set it on the user's record in user administration.

Scope is not a capability — an assigned-only user still exercises whatever permissions they hold, just over a narrower set of records. An assigned-only user with Edit Grants can fully edit their own grants and cannot see anyone else's.

Dashboard and report totals are scoped the same way. A user restricted to assigned grants sees figures covering only the grants they can drill into, never an organization-wide total they are not allowed to open.

A note on documents

Grant documents live in your content manager, so uploading and editing them also requires the organization's Document Management right. A user with full grant permissions but no document access can see that documents exist and cannot open them.
