Memberships
Supporter Portal Redesign
The member-facing Supporter Portal has been completely redesigned with a cleaner layout and 11 organized tabs, making it easier for members to manage their membership, access benefits, review giving history, and stay connected — all in one place.
- Overview — member stats, QR code, member ID, and recent donations at a glance
- My Membership — active subscriptions, plan benefits, and past subscriptions; members can renew early, change plans, update their card on file, stop renewal, or cancel
- Household — add and manage household members (when enabled on a plan)
- Benefits — all plan benefits plus any global benefits added by the organization
- Directory — searchable member directory (Membership Pro)
- Messages — member notes and announcements from the organization
- Campaigns — upcoming and past event tickets
- Giving History — full donation history with receipt access
- Profile — editable contact fields, profile photo, and email subscription preferences including secondary email
- Documents — documents shared by the organization
- Payments & Invoices — active recurring payments, open invoices, and paid invoice history
Admins can now preview any member's portal view directly from their contact record or subscription record without logging in as the member.

Viewable vs. Editable Profile Fields
The Profile tab now distinguishes between fields members can see and fields they can actually edit. Admins control this from the Supporter Portal settings. Learn more →
Household Memberships
Membership plans can now include multiple household members under a single subscription. When enabled on a plan, the primary member can add household members from their portal — with an optional cap on household size. Adult household members receive their own Supporter Portal login; child household members are recognized as part of the household but do not have portal access. Household adult notifications (renewal reminders) are configurable from Membership Settings. Learn more →
New Membership Plan Options
Two new options are available under Advanced Options when creating or editing a plan: a one-time fee + recurring amount option (charges an initiation fee at signup, then renews at the recurring rate only), and an allow member to choose renewal mode option (lets members select auto-renew or fixed term at checkout). Members on plans approaching renewal within 90 days also now see a Renew Now option in their portal. Learn more →
Subscription Management Improvements
Several new admin actions are now available on individual subscription records:
- Reinstate a cancelled subscription — reactivate without creating a new record; preserves history and resumes billing on the card on file
- Extend a subscription — push out the end date without creating a new record
- Change an invoice due date — shift a single upcoming invoice, or shift all future invoices for a subscription at once
- Mark an invoice as paid — record a payment received outside the system
- Apply a payment to an expired subscription — resolve invoices on lapsed subscriptions
- Improved payment history — payment history now displays correctly even when a subscription lapsed due to multiple failed charges
- Failed payment org notification — when a subscription payment fails, an email is now sent to the organization

Push Benefit Updates to All Active Subscribers
When you update benefits on a plan, you can now push those changes to all active subscribers on that plan at once. Learn more →
Expiring Cards & Expiring Subscriptions
Two new tabs on the Membership Management overview let you proactively identify members with expiring payment cards (next 90 days) or memberships approaching their end date. From either tab, you can bulk tag members for follow-up outreach. Learn more →
Date Filtering on the Membership Overview
The Membership Management overview now supports date filtering — filter subscription and revenue activity by a custom date range to review monthly performance or project upcoming renewals. Learn more →
Renewal Notification Controls
Four new controls in Membership Settings let you configure renewal reminder emails: notify the organization (receive a copy), timing (how many days before renewal; default 3 days, 30 days recommended for annual plans), filter by billing frequency (annual only, monthly only, or all), and household adult notifications (include or exclude adult household members). A separate setting lets you send an email about pending subscription cancellations, which links members back to their portal to renew. Learn more →
Member Directory (Membership Pro)
Enable a searchable, opt-in member directory inside the Supporter Portal. Admins configure which fields appear, who has access, and can rename or remove the directory from portal navigation. Members control their own visibility. Learn more →
Global Announcements, Alerts & Benefits (Membership Pro)
Post messages, banner alerts, or global benefits to all members — or a targeted segment by membership plan — without touching individual contact records. All global content supports date-based scheduling and expiration. Learn more →
Custom Portal Pages (Membership Pro)
Create rich text pages that appear directly in the Supporter Portal navigation. Manage them from Supporter Portal settings and toggle them on or off at any time. Common uses: resource pages, waivers, welcome content, seasonal announcements. Note: custom pages are visible to all members when active and cannot be restricted by plan tier. Learn more →
Events
Ticket Waitlisting (Premiere & Event Premiere plans)
When a ticket type is sold out, attendees can now join a waitlist. You choose how spots are offered when they open up: automatically (first in, first out) or manually by selecting who to notify from the waitlist. The offer stands for a configurable window (default 24 hours), then the spot is released back to the next person in line. Waitlist is enabled per ticket type under Advanced Options on the event.
When a spot becomes available, the waitlisted guest receives an email (and optionally a text) with a reserved link that lets them complete their purchase even though the ticket shows as sold out. Learn how to set up ticket waitlisting →
Bulk Edit Guests
Admins can now download the guest list as a CSV, make bulk edits in a spreadsheet, and re-upload it for validation before committing changes. Supported edits include combining guests, updating paddle numbers, changing table assignments, updating status, and adding new guest slots. The upload preview shows what changed and flags any conflicts before you apply. Note: bulk edits do not trigger notifications. Learn how to bulk edit guests →
Guest Link Merge Field in Email Marketing
When running an email marketing campaign targeting event guests, you can now include the guest's personalized checkout link as a merge field — inserted directly into the message body for each recipient.
Send to Alternate Email Address
Email marketing campaigns can now be sent to a contact's secondary/alternate email address. A new "Send to alternate address" option is available in the campaign targeting settings.
Waiver Status Filter for Event Emails
When sending an email to event guests, you can now filter by waiver status — for example, emailing only guests who haven't yet signed their waiver.
Showtimes / Sessions Redesigned UI
The Edit Showtimes interface has been redesigned with a new layout that supports drag-and-drop reordering. No new functionality — just a significantly improved experience for managing multi-session events.
Custom Confirmation Email Subject Lines
You can now customize the subject line for event confirmation emails from the Communications settings on the event.
Clear a Guest from a Slot
You can now remove a guest from a specific slot or seat without deleting the slot entirely — keeping the slot available for reassignment.
Auctions
Bulk Photo Import with Auto-Match
Upload a batch of images and BetterUnite will automatically match each one to an auction item based on the filename (e.g., an image named "102.jpg" matches item #102). Any images that don't auto-match can be assigned manually from the same interface. You can also export all auction item images as a zip file from the same Actions menu. Learn how to bulk upload auction item photos →
Auto-Suggest Starting Bid & Minimum Increment
When you enter an estimated value on an auction item, the system now suggests a starting bid and minimum increment based on that value. Click Apply to use the suggestion, or enter your own amounts.
New Bid Sheet Options
Bid sheets have been simplified and now include additional configuration options, including the ability to include existing online bids on a printed bid sheet (useful when transitioning from online to paper bidding mid-event). Bulk export of all bid sheets is also now available.
Public Bid History Toggle
Admins can now choose whether to show the full bid history to the public on an auction item page — giving bidders visibility into who else has bid, similar to a traditional paper bid sheet.
Custom Auction Page Background Image
Replaces the default gradient with a custom image on your auction's public-facing page. Set this from the auction page settings when logged in as an admin viewing the live auction.
Move Auction Items to Another Event
You can now move auction items from one event to another directly from the auction items list.
New Out-of-the-Box Word Merge Templates
Several pre-built word merge templates are now available to use as starting points — no setup required. Available templates include: auction bid sheet, paddles-up paddle card, name tag (with ticket name, guest name, table, and paddle number), thank you for donation, thank you for attending, end-of-year member, and volunteer. Select a template from your event's Word Templates section, customize it, and generate merged documents directly from the guest list.
Provider Receipts for Auction Item Donors
When an auction item has a Provided By entry, you can now generate and send a provider receipt (gift-in-kind acknowledgment) to the item donor directly from the auction item record.
Additional Auction Updates
Item donation import now brings over terms, delivery information, and category assignments. Sponsor totals now display as a category total on the event dashboard. Giving level purchaser links are now clickable from the sponsorship edit page — click any giving level to see who purchased it.
Contacts & CRM
Connections in Grid & Exports
Contact relationships (connections) can now be added as a column in the contacts grid and included in contact exports. For example, you can see all employee relationships in a grid view or export them as part of a contact report.
Last Email Bounce Indicator
If the last email sent to a contact bounced, the contact record now displays an alert indicating this so you can take action before the next send.
Multi-Contact Merge
You can now select more than two contacts and merge them in a single action. The merge interface shows a comparison matrix, automatically pre-selects the most complete values, and highlights only the fields that differ — so you can review and resolve conflicts quickly.
Duplicate Contact Detection
The CRM now detects hard duplicates and displays an alert on the contacts page when they're found — so you can address them without having to run a manual search.
Redesigned Import Pages
The contact import pages have been redesigned with an improved layout and better instructions. Large imports (10,000+ records) are now handled without needing to break files into smaller batches — the import runs as a background job.
Import Support for Connections, Soft Credits & Alternate Emails
Contact imports now support: up to five relationship connections per contact, soft credits, and alternate (secondary) email addresses. When merging two contacts where one has an additional email, you can now choose to preserve that email as the merged contact's secondary email rather than discarding it.
Payments & Transactions
Crypto, DAF & Stock Donations via Giving IQ
BetterUnite now supports cryptocurrency donations, donor-advised fund (DAF) giving, and stock donations through its integration with Donate Stock (rebranding to Giving IQ). Once the integration is enabled for your organization, you can turn it on per event. Donors will see an Alternative Payment Methods option at checkout with Stock, DAF, and Crypto available. Note: DAF is not available when the cart contains event ticket line items.
Full Cart Discount
A new discount option lets you apply a percentage discount to an entire cart, rather than to a single item. Useful for applying across-the-board discounts for specific groups or situations.
Card Type & Reference Number on Donations
The card type and last four digits (e.g., Amex 1001) are now recorded on each donation record and flow through to integrations — making reconciliation easier and improving data passed to connected systems.
Global Custom Tax Receipts
You can now create and manage custom tax receipt templates at the organization level that apply across events. Templates support merge fields for donation details, goods and services values, and pledge payment links.
Acknowledgement Status in Transaction Exports
The acknowledgement status of a transaction (acknowledged, not acknowledged, etc.) is now included in transaction exports.
Purchaser Name on Cart Items
The name of the person who purchased a cart item is now visible within the cart item detail.
Statements Now a Background Job
Running donation statements for large contact lists previously timed out at scale. Statements now run as a background job and can handle large volumes without failing.
Bulk Pledge Import
You can now import pledges in bulk from the Pledges section, in addition to creating them individually.
Custom Forms
All Contact Fields Supported
Custom forms now support all standard contact fields, including custom fields — not just a limited subset. When a form submission is configured to update a contact record, you can now choose to protect specific fields from being overwritten if a value already exists (accept new values only for contacts without that field filled in).
New Analytics Tab
Each custom form now has an Analyze tab that shows response counts over a selected date range and a breakdown of answers for each question. For multi-choice fields, you see a graph of all distinct answers submitted — useful for surveying preferences, collecting demographic data, or tracking form engagement over time.
Integrations
Blackbaud
Guest event participation is now synced to Blackbaud. Previously, only donation and contact data flowed over; guest registrations are now included.
Salesforce
Custom field mapping is now available — you can map any BetterUnite contact or donation field to any corresponding Salesforce field (contact or opportunity), including custom fields on both sides. Acknowledgement status and household donor relationships are also now synced. Deep-dive sessions with your account team are recommended for configuring custom mapping.
Virtuous
Several enhancements to the Virtuous integration: support for large segment counts (tested to 160,000+ segments, now handled with caching); bulk pledge sync with auto-update (if a pledge amount changes in BetterUnite, Virtuous is updated automatically); activity sync (notes added to a contact in BetterUnite now transfer to Virtuous); email suppression flag sync; and card type information passed through with transactions.
Platform Improvements
Asynchronous Exports with Downloads Page
Exports of 200 or fewer records generate immediately as before. Larger exports now run as background jobs — you'll receive an on-screen notification and an email when the file is ready. All recent exports are accessible from the Downloads page under Settings for 30 days.
Campaign-Level Access Filtering
Users with campaign-level access restrictions now see only the events and campaigns they have permission to access on the main campaigns and events pages — rather than seeing everything and getting an error when they click something outside their access.
Custom Fields on Grants Grid
Custom fields can now be added as columns to the grants grid for easier tracking and reporting on grants.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is everything in this release available on all plans?
Most features are available on all BetterUnite plans. Plan-specific exceptions: ticket waitlisting requires Premiere or Event Premiere; Member Directory, Global Announcements/Alerts/Benefits, and Custom Portal Pages require Membership Pro; Giving IQ (crypto/DAF/stock) requires the Giving IQ integration to be enabled for your organization.
Do I need to do anything to enable these features?
Most features are on and available immediately. A few require explicit setup: household memberships and new plan options must be enabled per plan; waitlisting must be enabled per ticket type; Giving IQ requires the integration to be enabled at the org level and toggled on per event; Salesforce custom field mapping requires configuration in your integration settings.
Do my members automatically see the redesigned Supporter Portal?
Yes — the portal update is live for all members immediately. No action is needed on your end.
Will my existing notification settings for memberships change?
No. The new renewal notification controls are additive — existing renewal emails continue as configured. New options (org copy, timing, frequency filter, household notifications) default to off until you change them.
